Meet the Dahlia Kids
Milly, Gracie-Mae and Lexi opened Green Footed Kiwi Pick Your Own Dahlia Farm to the public in the summer of 2021 as part of a homeschooling project. It has blossomed into a beautiful hands-on experience where the children and their visitors benefit from a mutual joy of flowers.
Their journey began with 20 potted cuttings bought on Facebook from a lovely lady in Kerikeri. Two years later, the Dahlia Kids now collect all their own seeds from their own flower farm, which has since expanded to be over 700m of dahlia beds with around 3,000 dahlia plants. Their ultimate goal is to grow all of their own plants from this seed to produce and sell a unique selection of dahlia varieties available nowhere else in the world. Such is the wonder of cross breeding!
Right from the start, the three girls wanted to focus on providing a friendly, informative and totally hands-on experience for others. We hope you enjoy your dahlia experience as much as the Dahlia Kids enjoy providing it.
Currently, the Dahlia Kids offer Pick Your Own every weekend during our growing season, High Tea, Subscription Magazines, Jars and bouquets of dahlias delivered to a centralised pick-up point on Wednesdays and Private Bookings for larger groups during the week. Their new book titles The Dahlias Kids, Our Journey into Growing Dahlias from Seed in New Zealand is also for sale in our website shop.
